What is the effect of Youtube on our lives?

YouMake,ReMake is a project inviting artists to respond to Youtube clips – on stage. The idea for the project was conceived from the notion that YouTube has become the place where everything happens. It is a gateway into an endless, rich and fascinating reservoir, containing almost anything one can imagine. This may sound familiar: in the peak of some social encounter, someone says:"hey, do you know that clip on YouTube?" Everyone sits around the modern 'bonfire of the tribe,' and a session of intuitive viewing begins. The great abundance generates a variety of occurrences, directions of thought, images, situations, aesthetics and disciplines.

What is YouMake,ReMake exactly?

YouMake,ReMake finds in YouTube an enormous source of a fruitful artistic dialogue, which takes place on stage, creating an interaction between two mediums: video and stage. The Remake which the artist chooses to create is not a mere replica, but rather a reaction, which sheds a different light or a comment on the original video clip. Both the original clip and the remake receive an added value, born out of the new encounter created on stage. in the future we intend to create new editions of YouMakeReMake.

How is this happening?

In the first stage, Youtube clips which stimulate such dialogue are chosen. After the initial selection, each clip is given to an artist who creates the stage response and titles it. In the next stage, the artistic director edits the order ("line up") of the pieces, and works with the artists throughout the process. There are some guidelines which characterize the event: We try our best to ensure that the length of the clips will not exceed 10 minutes. The Youtube clips cannot be re-edited or manipulated in any way, and must be screened as is. It was also decided you may not prepare a special clip for the event, rather find one from the existing materials. Each piece is presented either before, after or during the original clip, depending on the piece and is subject to the artists' decision.
